Wine Down Thursday: New and Old
July 2 from 6 to 7L30pm
Sampler $20/person

Join us on Thursday, July 2nd, as we explore the classic contrast between Old World and New World winemaking. We'll taste our way through two Sauvignon Blancs and two Pinot Noirs, comparing how these celebrated grape varieties express themselves in France and California.

2024 Plouzeau Sauvignon Blanc, Touraine
Marc Plouzeau, a third-generation winemaker in historic Chinon, farms vineyards on the left bank of the Vienne River, a tributary of the Loire. Since taking over the estate in 1999, he has transitioned the vineyards to certified organic viticulture, with a strong focus on letting the region’s diverse soils—clay-limestone, gravel, and flint—express themselves in the wines. This Sauvignon Blanc is a vivid expression of the clay-limestone parcels where it is grown. Aromatic and precise, it balances bright acidity with ripe fruit, making it an easy crowd-pleaser.

2025 Bedrock Wine Co. Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc
Bedrock Wine Co. is the passion project of Morgan Twain-Peterson, MW, a leading advocate for historic California vineyards. Founded in 2007, the winery grew from small, hands-on beginnings into one of the state’s most respected producers, and Chris Cottrell joined as partner in 2013. This Sonoma Valley Sauvignon Blanc is a distinctly California expression, with vibrant citrus, melon, green papaya, and tropical accents, plus fresh acidity, mineral lift, and some textural richness from partial barrel fermentation. It’s riper and more full-bodied than a Loire Sauvignon Blanc, while still keeping enough brightness and structure to stay balanced.

2023 Château de la Greffière Bourgogne Rouge
Located in La Roche-Vineuse in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region, Château de la Greffière is a long-established family estate run by the Greuzard family, with four generations involved in the domaine. The estate focuses on expressing the distinctive southern Burgundy terroir through its wines, and its Bourgogne Rouge is a graceful Pinot Noir with bright cherry, raspberry, wild strawberry, subtle spice, and earthy sous-bois notes. The wine is generally described as elegant, supple, and approachable, with refined tannins and enough structure to make it more than just a simple fruit-forward red.

2025 Brij Wines Pinot Noir Printemps
Raj Parr, a highly influential sommelier turned winemaker, is the force behind Brij Wines. Born in Kolkata and introduced to wine in London at age 20, he built a distinguished career in wine service before turning more fully toward farming and winemaking on California’s Central Coast. Sourced from coastal San Luis Obispo County vineyards, Printemps—French for “spring”—captures the wine’s freshness and energy. Made with carbonic maceration and aged in neutral French oak, it is light, bright, and fruit-driven, with lively red berry flavors and a silky texture. It’s a vivid California Pinot Noir that leans riper and more exuberant than a Burgundian counterpart while still keeping a cool-climate sense of lift.
