Wine Down Thursday: German Excursion
July 9 from 6 to 7:30pm
Sampler: $20/person
Join us Thursday, July 9th, as we taste through three exceptional German wines, from a world-class traditional-method sparkling wine to an elegantly balanced off-dry Riesling to a vibrant, dry Pinot Noir rosé. These wines come from the Pfalz and Rheinhessen, two of Germany's premier wine regions, where a new generation of producers is combining centuries-old traditions with sustainable farming and meticulous winemaking. As you taste, notice how each wine balances fruit and acidity while expressing its unique sense of place. These bottles offer an excellent snapshot of why we think Germany has become one of the most exciting wine-producing countries.
Featured Wines:
NV von Winning Riesling Sekt Extra Brut
Based in Deidesheim in the Pfalz, Weingut von Winning is one of Germany's most highly regarded estates, known for pairing traditional craftsmanship with a modern, terroir-driven philosophy. With roots dating to the 19th century, the estate has become a leader in both world-class Riesling and traditional-method Sekt. High-density planting — 5,060 vines per acre — pushes root systems deep into the soil, naturally limiting yields. This Extra Brut spends extended time on its lees, lending a fine, persistent mousse and added complexity. Vibrant and bone-dry, it shows white peach, lemon zest, and green apple over a flinty minerality, with bright acidity and a saline finish.
2025 Müller-Ruprecht Pinot Noir Rosé
Müller-Ruprecht is a family-owned winery in Germany's Pfalz region that has become one of our favorites for its authentic, low-intervention approach and vibrant, terroir-focused wines. Their Pinot Noir Rosé is made entirely from Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), a grape that thrives in the Pfalz's warm climate while retaining lively acidity. The 2025 rosé is crisp, dry, and wonderfully refreshing, with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, citrus peel, and a touch of fresh herbs. Its bright acidity and mineral finish make it an ideal summer wine, showcasing the elegance that German Pinot Noir can achieve.
2024 Seehof Riesling Feinherb
Weingut Seehof, run by the Fauth family in Germany's Rheinhessen region, has earned an outstanding reputation for producing Rieslings that balance purity, precision, and exceptional value. The winery farms limestone-rich vineyards around Westhofen, an area famous for some of Germany's finest white wines. "Feinherb" means just off-dry, offering a touch of residual sweetness beautifully balanced by Riesling's naturally vibrant acidity. The 2024 vintage is fresh and expressive, showing notes of ripe peach, apricot, citrus, and delicate floral aromas. The hint of sweetness softens the wine without making it overtly sweet, making it especially versatile with spicy foods, seafood, or simply on its own.
